Acorns pupils have been ‘Extreme Reading’ over the holidays. They loved reading in wonderful and unusual places as the first of many reading challenges they will embark on this term.
Packwood’s reading reward system is well underway, and children have already started earning certificates. They are filling their passports with stamps for a variety of reasons linked to positive reading behaviour, such as regular reading at home, reading in their free time or working on their reading next steps. The board in the Acorns lobby tracks their reading progress through our Solar System.
In their recent Spanish lesson, Year 1 were introduced to flamenco dancing. First, they were shown videos featuring wonderful dance costumes and traditional Spanish music. This was followed by an opportunity to learn some steps and have a go at their own flamenco style dance.
Meanwhile, Year 2 have used their creative and mathematical skills to make money spiders – using different coins to add up to the same value on each leg. This has been an enjoyable and valuable learning experience, helping the children to develop their understanding of money.
Both Year 1 and Year 2 have also been investigating rockets and how they are launched. They have designed and built their own rockets and enjoyed putting their designs to the test.
