As is customary, the Prep School gathered together on the final day of term to share in the celebration of individual and collective successes. First to be awarded were the individual form effort prizes, presented to a pupil from each form who has shown a sustained commitment to their studies during the term. In discussing these nominations as a staff, it is always hugely rewarding to hear names of children who have made significant progress during the term, all through their hard work and perseverance. The second category celebrates the successes and endeavours of our pupils across the headings of the ‘Big Tree Attributes’ (Boldness, Imagination, Growth-Minded, Teamwork, Resourcefulness, Empathy, Excellence) and our school values of Tenacity, Respect and Humility. Awards were presented for pupils’ contribution and excellence across a number of areas of school life, including sports, performing arts, academics, life in the boarding community, kindness around school, and even fishing.
The final awards presented to individual pupils were our half and full colours. The presentation of their certificate and pin badge signify three key traits: personal excellence, a genuine contribution to Packwood in embodying the Packwood Way in their areas, and showing real enjoyment and passion. Awarded to pupils in Forms 7 and 8, these are relatively rare accolades to receive. This term’s recipients were awarded half and full colours for art and design, drama, dance, music, fencing, rugby, hockey, cross country and boarding.
A key part of the Packwood Way is the notion that individual successes all count for the greater good, both in respect of the whole school and also as part of the Sixes (our house structure). This is especially the case for our academic points (bronzes, silvers and golds) and greens, awarded to pupils who go above and beyond in demonstrating the Packwood Way. A staggering 927 academic points have been awarded this term, which were added up to decide the Quellyn Roberts Sixes Cup:
4th place: Bradshaw Boyces 1902
3rd place: Manning Sodens: 2368
2nd place: Harcourt Clarkes: 2374
1st place: McFerran Wilsons: 2448
Finally, the highly coveted Sixes Shield was presented to the winning Six, taking into account all points and our inter-sixes competitions for the term (cross-country, rugby, netball and hockey):
4th place: Bradshaw Boyces 2552
3rd place: Harcourt Clarkes 2824
2nd place: Manning Sodens 2968
1st place: McFerran Wilsons 3598
