On Sunday 1st February, 21 Packwood dancers took part in the John Weaver Dance Festival in The Barnes Theatre at Shrewsbury School. The day began with professional musical theatre performer, and festival adjudicator, Daniel Cox teaching choreography from the professional production of Cats the musical. The routine was technical and fast paced and it was a great opportunity for all our dancers to challenge themselves. They embodied our Packwood attribute of tenacity to keep up with the music and many older dancers. The juniors performed the first dance of the whole competition and performed superbly, to start the competition off with such energy, with some pupils dancing on stage for the first time.
Then our seniors took to the stage with their dance which they collaboratively choreographed with Miss Dunn and named ‘Araignee’. They demonstrated some impressive teamwork via their lifts and all their individual hard work on arm and feet positions paid off.
It was wonderful to see the team spirit of our dancers supporting one another and the other teams. Congratulations to all our dancers including BB (Form 3) and MG (Form 6) for their ‘Outstanding Individual Performance’ medals.
To top the day off, the boarders enjoyed some well earned ice-cream on the way home. Many thanks to parents and staff for all their support and to Shrewsbury School for a fantastic event which was very much enjoyed by Packwood pupils:
“I enjoyed the experience of being part of a dance competition for the first time.” (HA, Form 3)
“I enjoyed how my brother kept on waving at me from the audience.” (IR, Form 3)
“I really enjoyed doing my cartwheel and I was really pleased to get a medal.” (BB, Form 3)
“I enjoyed how respectful the audience was and how supportive the other performers were clapping for each other.” (IK, Form 3)
“I enjoyed when we finished our dance on stage and everybody clapped.” (FG, Form 3)
“I really enjoyed the workshop. It was fun because I liked the choreography and learning new techniques.” (SM, Form 6)
