Year 6 recently enjoyed a visit to Bangor on Dee races with the wonderful charity Racing to School. Our pupils were given VIP access on the day allowing them to visit the weighing room to discuss the weights and measures used in racing, along with the concept of handicapping to make the races as fair as possible.
This was followed by a visit to the stables to see the horses arrive for the day and watching the vet assess the welfare of each one. The children then measured the parade ring to assess safe numbers of horses in this area before walking the course looking at fence design and concluding their tour with a foot race over the final furlong.
They thoroughly enjoyed applying their mathematical learning in a practical and engaging way.
