The children in Acorns have been having a fantastic time exploring their ‘Move It, Move It’ topic, learning all about transport past and present! They’ve enjoyed discovering how transport has evolved, from the early railways to modern planes, and have been inspired by the brilliant inventors behind these groundbreaking developments.
Through stories like Dig, Dig, Digging, Acorns have learned about the different jobs that vehicles do and how they help us in our daily lives. They’ve also gone on exciting transport adventures, bringing the magical Naughty Bus and the famous Chitty, Chitty, Bang, Bang car to life! These stories have sparked plenty of creative role-play, with children imagining their own journeys and adventures. With lots of fun activities, Acorns have gained a deeper understanding of how transport works while developing their writing and creativity along the way.
The children have enjoyed engaging assemblies where they learned about the BIG TREE school values, explored ways to promote good mental health, and discovered important tips for staying safe online. To celebrate Chinese New Year, they had a fun and delicious Chinese food feast, making the experience even more special!
Year 2 have also been working hard this half term for their ESB exam. They prepared a short 2-minute speech on ‘Something Special To Me’, entertaining the examiners with their stories about their medals and ski badges, football shirts, teddy bears, rocks and fossils to name a few. They learnt and recited a poem, and read a passage from their favourite book. They also listened attentively to each other and asked relevant questions at the end of the talks. The children did themselves proud, and the examiners were impressed with their brilliant listening skills and behaviour on the day. We eagerly await the results!
