Children in team kit and NFL Flag Football banner

NFL Flag Football

At the beginning of the year, Packwood started the mixed NFL Flag Football activity for the first time.  The game is a non-contact version of American Football (with specially designed tag belts) and will be a new event at the next Olympic Games .  The activity was very well received by the Year 5 and 6 children with lots of progress made in a short space of time.  The game rewards good agility, speed, throwing and catching skills within a team environment.  Compared to other invasion games, NFL Flag differs as it requires the players to plan every attacking and defensive play in meticulous detail.

Following Packwood’s success in introducing the game during activities, we were invited to the West Midlands U11 mixed tournament at the University of Coventry last Friday.  Mr Swift and Mrs Parry took a group of excited pupils to this very well organised event.  The boys and girls performed brilliantly and faced tough competition in the games.  Considering this was the first time the team had played a match, this was quite an achievement.  Mr Swift commented that most teams seemed to rely mainly on running, whereas Packwood focused on the Quarterback throwing the ball to receivers consistently. Congratulations to the team on a successful debut!
