A concert hall full of young musicians

Shrewsbury School Gala Concert

Amidst an exceptionally busy and varied half term, there has been plenty of music taking place.

A number of Packwood pupils played and sang – some both – at Shrewsbury School’s Gala Concert last Sunday, in their splendid Alington Hall. This was an opportunity for Shrewsbury’s two children’s orchestras to perform to a packed house, having rehearsed regularly throughout the year. Pupils from our Years 3, 4 and 5 also joined with pupils from several other schools to sing in the accompanying choir, led charismatically by Richard Robbins from Shrewsbury School.

Back at school, rehearsals have been taking place for our Summer Concert which takes place this Friday. Around 70 pupils will be performing, with an eclectic programme including the Big Band and Chamber Orchestra, Percussion and Guitar Ensembles, woodwind and choir pieces, and solos by our Year 8 scholars. We always look forward to the Summer Concert, a lovely relaxing evening with picnics on the lawn and the chance to celebrate our young musicians within Packwood’s beautiful grounds.
