It has been another busy and rewarding period of sport at Packwood, with pupils demonstrating their developing skills, as well as the values at the heart of The Packwood Way: humility, respect and tenacity. Across the U11 and U12 Rugby Festivals, U13 Rugby Sevens, U13 Netball fixtures, and the U11 Netball Festival at Wolverhampton Grammar School, our pupils have shown many of our Big Tree Attributes, particularly teamwork, boldness, growth-mindedness and resilience.
The U11 and U12 Rugby Festivals were a wonderful celebration of sport. Festivals provide an excellent opportunity for pupils to play freely, develop their confidence, and test their skills against a range of opponents. There were some excellent tries scored, with confident running and improving passing on display. Just as pleasing was the determination shown in defence and the willingness of players to work hard for one another.
The U13 Rugby Sevens tournament brought a faster, more open style of rugby. With fewer players on the pitch, every individual had an important role to play, and the Packwood boys rose to the challenge impressively. There were several moments of bold attacking play, with quick passing and strong support lines creating opportunities out wide. Defensively, the team showed great commitment, working tirelessly to track back and stop opposition attacks. A special mention should go to Atticus, James G and George L, who were all recognised as Players of the Festival. This was a well-deserved acknowledgement of their outstanding effort, skill and attitude throughout the tournament.
The U13 Netball team also delivered a strong display in their recent fixtures. The girls moved the ball confidently through the court, with excellent communication and accurate passing helping to create scoring opportunities. They supported each other consistently in both attack and defence. Their determination and focus reflected real tenacity, while their behaviour towards opponents and umpires demonstrated the respect and humility that underpin sport at Packwood. A particular congratulations goes to Grace G-S, who was named U13 Netball Player of the Tournament. This recognition reflects her excellent skill, determination and consistent performance throughout the competition, as well as the positive attitude she brought to the team.
Meanwhile, our U11 Netball players travelled to Wolverhampton Grammar School for an exciting festival of netball, where they had the chance to play a number of short, fast-paced matches against a variety of schools. The girls represented Packwood brilliantly, showing increasing confidence with each game. There was some excellent movement around the court, strong defending, and several well-taken goals. Most pleasing of all was the way the girls supported one another and encouraged their teammates throughout the afternoon. We were also delighted that Felicity and Skye were awarded the Teamwork Award, recognising their excellent communication, encouragement of teammates, and willingness to work selflessly for the team. In addition, Amanda and Eleanor L received the Most Improved Award, reflecting the impressive progress they made during the festival and their determination to keep learning and developing their game.
Across all these events, our pupils represented the school superbly. Sport at Packwood is about far more than results; it is about developing character, supporting one another, and embracing challenge. It was wonderful to see our teams living out the Packwood Way while continuing to grow as confident, resilient and supportive teammates. Well done to everyone who took part.
