With so much going on in the Autumn Term, it has become a Packwood tradition to hold the Christmas Concert in January, enhanced by tinsel to put us back in the Christmas spirit! This year’s ‘Winter Ensembles Performance’ took us all back a month to the festive season, with pieces including Walking in the Air (Chamber Orchestra), Carol of the Drum (Training Orchestra) and Santa Claus is Coming to Town (Big Band). It wasn’t all Christmas, however: the Percussion Ensemble’s ‘Mamba Italiano’, including a fabulous vocal solo from Eleanor, the String Ensemble’s ‘Ghosts’ and the Form 6 Guitar Ensemble’s ‘Melon Cocktail’ showed the full breadth of the year!
Forty pupils, ranging from Forms 3 to 8, played in the concert, and it was lovely to see such variety of instruments and styles – and, in the case of the Form 7 guitarists, a self-composed performance.
Very well done to all who took part.
