Packwood pupils dressed as characters for world book day

World Book Day Celebrations

The English department planned a vast array of events for World Book Day this year, starting on Thursday 2nd March, running through to a celebration of books and dress-up day on Saturday 4th March.

Years 3 and 4 were invited to join the children at local primary school, St John Baptist CE, and Years 5 and 6 visited Bomere Heath for an author visit and workshops. The children were captivated by the stories written and told by Teresa Heapy, ‘The Very Little Red Riding Hood’ and ‘The Marvellous Moon Map’. After exploring the structure of a well-written story, the children began planning their own Mouse and Bear stories. From a mouse finding cheese up a mountain, to mouse and bear being attacked by an army of mice in a rainforest, their imaginations ran wild!

On Saturday the Prep children and teachers dressed as their favourite book characters. There were plenty of Harry Potters and Worst Witches, some Wimpy Kids and many characters from books by familiar authors such as Roald Dahl and David Walliams.

During the morning, Years 3-6 engaged in Sixes activities organised by their English teachers. This included a book scavenger rely, exploring story plots and book cover design. The whole school were invited to take part in a ‘Shelfie’ competition where the children had to guess which bookshelf photo belonged to which staff member.

Many thanks to the staff involved in planning such an array of magnificent and inspiring events, and to the parents and children for finding and creating such excellent costumes too.
