It has been a busy time in the English department with a wonderful selection of events taking place over the last few weeks.
Three members of Year 6 were selected as finalists to attend the Sir Philip Sidney Essay competition workshop at Shrewsbury School alongside children from prep schools across the country. They debated the topic of climate justice, and explored different forms of political representation for young people, having researched current issues impacting young people for their essay competition.
Back at Packwood, Year 6 welcomed the author Ros Roberts as part of our BookFest ‘Readers to Writers’ project, who inspired us with her enthusiasm and creative ideas for story writing. We look forward to welcoming her back in a few weeks to show her how much progress we have made on our own books.
Year 2 and Year 4 have been inspiring others with their performances in the ESB assessments. The examiners were blown away by the range of subjects our pupils chose to present on, and their confident and eloquent presentation of their poems and book recitations. Many congratulations to everyone who took part.
Finally, we were delighted to host A. F. Steadman at Packwood, the author of the Skandar series, alongside nearly 40 pupils from West Felton Primary School. She gave a brilliant presentation about her books, and the children were invited to help create a unicorn character for her final book in the series. As a keen fencer herself, we also managed to snap a picture with some of our Packwood fencing team who were thrilled to discover more about her fencing exploits, some of which inspired scenes in her stories.
