On Friday morning Form 4 set off to the impenetrable fortress of Stafford Castle, a classic Norman Motte and Bailey Castle with all the trimmings; a Keep, Outer Bailey, Inner Bailey, Moat, Motte. The pupils were completely enthralled by our hugely enthusiastic and seemingly RADA trained tour guide who brought the whole experience to life.
In the afternoon we looked at the weaponry and clothing that a Saxon and Norman soldier would have worn around that time. There was much concern for Will T, who was used as a prop to highlight the weight of chainmail and the difficulty of trying to fight in this. Slowly he sagged but he stood firm like the true Saxon warrior that he is. Soon it was time to return to the wilds of Shropshire having stormed and vanquished the Normans at Stafford. Many thanks to Mrs Robertson and Mrs Pembleton for their support.
