A Celebration of Learning! – A Look Back on Soaring Performance at Packwood

As the academic year draws to a close, we have had the immense pleasure of welcoming parents and special guests into the classroom once again for our much-loved Celebration of Learning events. These occasions have offered a vibrant window into the daily life of our school, giving families the chance to step into the world of their children’s learning and experience firsthand the joy, challenge and discovery that characterise our lessons.

From Year 3 to Year 8, each class has enjoyed sharing a diverse and engaging range of subjects with their guests — a true reflection of the broad and balanced curriculum we are so proud to offer.

In Year 3, children explored English, Art, TPR and French, with an especially interactive English session that deepened their understanding of adverbs. Pupils rotated through four different speaking, listening and writing tasks, enthusiastically demonstrating their developing language skills.

Year 4 showcased their learning in Maths, Music, Sport and Science, where the science session was a definite highlight. Parents and children investigated Magnetic Fields, exploring the direction and shapes of these invisible forces and even discovering how the Earth’s magnetic field enables us to use a compass – a hands-on session that brought physical science to life.

Our Year 5 pupils enjoyed sharing their English, Computer Studies, History and Drama lessons with their parents. It was inspiring to see how creatively and confidently they are approaching these subjects.

In Year 6, visitors experienced lessons in Science, Design Technology, French and Drama. One session stood out as pupils tackled the geographical language of rivers and river management, a clear example of cross-curricular depth and critical thinking in action.

Year 7 learners showcased their talents in English, Music, History and Science. Their English session introduced the poetic form of odes. After a lively “love or hate” discussion, pupils read a humorous ode to porridge and then composed their own – with surprisingly heartfelt tributes to toothbrushes, plates, tabasco and cricket bats! A brilliant example of creativity and humour flowing through literary learning.

Finally, Year 8 impressed with sessions in Maths, Art, Geography and PE. In Maths, parents joined pupils in revising exam techniques through Common Entrance-style questions, from Product of Prime Factors to the now-legendary “Noddy’s Hat” problem! It brought back memories for many of the adults in the room. Meanwhile, in Art, families collaborated on beautiful block prints, carving intricate designs into polystyrene before printing them together, with whales, chickens, cats and mushrooms all making delightful appearances.

Across all year groups, these events have been a joyful reminder of the rich educational journey our children embark on each day. They are thriving — not just in core academic subjects, but across the arts, sciences, languages and sport. The enthusiasm and pride with which our pupils shared their learning was both heartwarming and inspiring.

Thank you to all the parents and special guests who joined us for these occasions. Your involvement is invaluable. We look forward to many more moments of shared celebration as we continue to foster soaring performance, character and adventure to create a lifelong love of learning in every Packwood child.
