The Big Band Day at Shrewsbury School was a ‘big band’ in every sense! With musicians from five prep schools taking part, as well as Shrewsbury School staff and musical pupils, the combined musicians took over the impressive Alington Hall.
It was a varied and busy day, beginning with an improvisation session led charismatically by Mr Skipper, and followed by selected Shrewsbury pupils performing in an enjoyable lunchtime concert. The main Big Band rehearsals took a couple of hours of the afternoon, and Mrs McKenzie’s ability to put together five different pieces, none of which the prep school pupils had seen in advance, was impressive indeed! The day finished with an energetic concert to parents, performing the pieces learnt that afternoon and also featuring Shrewsbury’s own Big Band.
