The 2025 weather has resulted in a very busy term of cricket with very few matches cancelled.
The U13As have had a successful season after qualification in September for the knockout rounds of the David English Cup. The team attended a 3 day residential camp hosted by Shrewsbury School, in which they played Belhaven Hill School from Scotland. The camp set them up well to secure a win against Newcastle Under Lyme School and face Bromsgrove School in the Midlands Semi-Finals. The team played well but fell short of runs which ended their competition.
Outside of this, the team were runners up at the The Downs, Malvern Sixes competition and victorious in their inter-school fixtures with Prestfelde and Wrekin College. They finish their season with Sixes at Wrekin College and a match against the ‘Best of District XI.’
The other senior teams have all played well with matches against Prestfelde, Wrekin and Shrewsbury School.
The U12 Bunbury Cup team have successfully started their journey to try to emulate and possibly exceed the current U13As in their quest to get to the final of the David English Cup. This competition starts with the Shropshire knockouts in the summer of Year 7 and then moved to the regional knockouts in the summer of Year 8. The team succeeded in the first step where they faced Thomas Telford School and they will now face Prestfelde.
The U11s have continued to go from strength to strength with the A girls progressing to their first hard ball matches this week and the A boys competing well in fixtures against a number of other schools. The highlight of the season so far was the bowl off against Hallfield School and The Elms, Malvern to get to the Plate Final of the Malvern College Sixes. The boys are hoping to exceed this record at both the forthcoming Shrewsbury School Eights and Wrekin College Sixes this week.
All other teams have competed well and have shown Packwood’s considerable depth of talent. No more evident than both the U13 and U11 Packwood Eights competitions, in which we fielded three mixed ability teams that were able to hold their own against the best players from local clubs. All players should be very proud of both their performances on the pitch as well as their behaviour off it.
The juniors have enjoyed a great summer of cricket. The U9s tested themselves against a set of tough competition at the Hallfield School festival. Being based in Edgbaston, the quality of cricket was high and the boys enjoyed testing themselves against it. Sadly, the U8s did not get to demonstrate their talent with the U8 Hallfield festival being one of the only weather related cancellations of the season.
A huge amount of cricket with a huge amount of progress for all pupils. Following the round-robin rounds of the Sixes competitions, you are warmly invited to the finals at 10:30am on the last Thursday of term. A wonderful spectacle of every pupil donning their Packwood whites for one last time this season!
