This week Acorns experienced a special ‘Ice Worlds’ theme day. All the children and teachers came to school dressed in fantastic costumes – there were polar bears, penguins, explorers, snow leopards and Arctic foxes and hares to name just a few. The children worked in groups and rotated around a variety of ‘Ice World’ activities.
With Mrs Tomlins they worked in small groups to design and make a sledge, choosing from a range of materials. The sledges had to be able to slide down the ‘Ice Mountain’ without getting stuck, and also had to hold a small toy. The sledges were tested to see which ones slid the furthest down the slope without the toy bear falling off.
When the children worked with Mrs Burbano Hall, they explored Maths activities and made polar animals from 2d shapes. Mrs Wall had planned an Art activity, in which the children creatively made Northern Light pictures using oil pastels. They are now experts at blending colours and they showed plenty of creative flair!
