The children in Acorns had a wonderful adventure at Preston Montford Activity Centre, becoming nature detectives for the day. They explored different habitats, discovered fascinating creatures and used their senses to investigate the natural world.
First stop was the wooded habitat, where they enjoyed bug hunting amongst the leaves, logs and undergrowth, searching carefully for minibeasts and discovering what might be hiding beneath their feet.
They also explored a pond habitat, looking closely at the creatures that live in and around the water. This sparked lots of curiosity as they discovered more about pond life.
Next, they put their senses and descriptive language to the test with an adjective hunt, searching for natural objects that were rough, smelly, soft and more, using their senses to explore different textures and smells while developing their vocabulary.
One of the highlights was hunting for woolly ‘caterpillars’ cleverly camouflaged outside. The children had to look closely and use their observation skills to spot these hidden creatures.
Throughout the day, everyone showed fantastic curiosity and enthusiasm, learning about nature through hands-on experiences. It was a day full of discovery, exploration and outdoor fun. Well done, Acorns, for being such wonderful nature detectives.
