Children dressed in traditional Indian clothing

Acorns Theme Day

The Acorns children were delighted to welcome Mr Ghani, who visited us to share information about the Muslim faith. He spoke about different aspects of the religion, and the importance of prayer, showing the children his prayer mat and explaining how it is used during daily prayers. The children listened carefully and enjoyed asking questions and having the opportunity to learn about different cultures and beliefs.

The following week, the children immersed themselves in an Indian Theme Day filled with exciting hands-on experiences and cultural discoveries. They showed great creativity while making decorated elephants, carefully cutting out elephant shapes from clay and adding designs inspired by Indian art. They observed the intricate colours and markings on real peacock feathers, before creating their own feathers using a range of media, including paint, collage materials, and pens. These individual creations were then combined to make a collaborative peacock display, celebrating their teamwork and creativity.

The children were encouraged to develop their confidence in trying new foods whilst tasting a variety of Indian snacks, and using their senses to enjoy the different aromas, tastes and textures. They also enjoyed dressing up in beautiful Indian clothing, giving them an opportunity to explore fabrics, colours, and styles.

The day provided a meaningful experience of Indian culture through imagination, exploration, and shared experiences.
