Children learning to build architectural structures

Architecture Workshop Inspires Pupils

Following the great success of the Architecture Workshop last year in the Prep school, Acorns were the first to welcome Martin from the Architecture Workshop this year. All children from Reception through to Year 8 have taken part in a variety of tasks. The theme of each construction has ranged from ‘my first structure’ for Reception, through to the Tudor Globe Theatre in Year 5 and a Viking long boat in Year 4.

This has been a fantastic opportunity for all pupils throughout the school to learn the basics of architecture, combining how to build strong structures with cross curricular links with subjects such as History (Viking long boats and Egyptian Pyramids), Science (habitats and shelters in Year 1 and 2) and Empire Windrush – Black History in Year 7 and 8.

The workshops have encouraged teamwork, planning and creativity, all of which have led to some superb results.
