Young children looking at ocean life project

Big Blue Theme Day: Protecting Ocean Wildlife

On the Big Blue Theme Day, the children in Acorns were buzzing with excitement as they explored the very important topic of ocean pollution. The day began with a surprising twist – when they entered the classroom, they were greeted by an alarming sight: it was covered in rubbish. Their eyes widened in shock as the children recognised the impact of litter on marine life.

With enthusiasm and determination, the children sprang to action, working together to clean up the mess. They sorted the rubbish into categories: plastic, paper and other materials. This hands-on activity not only made them aware of the different types of waste but also instilled a sense of responsibility for their environment.

The creativity flowed as the children contributed to three large art projects. They crafted a stunning turtle collage from recycled materials, symbolizing the importance of protecting ocean wildlife. Next, they painted a vibrant mural titled “Small Hands Can Change The World” celebrating their collective effort. Finally, they collaborated on an informative poster, “How Long Until It’s Gone?” to highlight the timeline of waste decomposition.

By the end of the day, the children not only learned about pollution but also experienced the joy of teamwork and creativity in advocating for a cleaner ocean.
