Outdoor science lesson involving pupils and their parents

Celebration of Learning

Year 7 parents and special guests were both enlightened and entertained by the variety of Year 7 lessons during our second Celebration of Learning event this year.

In Drama, they had fun creating a TV style advert advertising a ‘useless’ object. Parents and children performed together on the theatre stage.

In Music, the children worked with their parents to create a piece of music in ternary form, with the pupils composing an ‘A’ section, and the parents composing a contrasting middle section. There was some real talent in evidence!

In English, Year 7 readily took up the opportunity to write a poetic ode with their parents. Successful examples included odes to pizza, Dairy Milk and ‘Ode to My Microsoft Surface’.

Biology was taught, as it should be, surrounded by nature. The parents and children put on their running shoes to imitate animal behaviours to gain an understanding of natural selection. We were left with the thought provoking idea that maybe we shouldn’t be leaving bird feeders in gardens.

The TPR lesson was centred around the story of David and Goliath. A retrieval game of Bingo, a search and find quiz, followed by a quick video and finishing with a sling shot competition using a small ball and a spoon – very competitive but not very successful. It just showed how good David must have been.

All in all, a great showcase of how the children here at Packwood enjoy such a broad and balanced learning experience each and every day.
