Our return to school has meant the exciting launch of Packwood’s new Curriculum SOAR. Whilst our pupils were enjoying the last few days of the summer holidays, the teaching staff were busy working hard and collaborating together to develop cross-curricular links and learning opportunities across the school from Reception to Form 8; focusing on developing the ‘Big Idea’ for each unit of study and some ‘Essential Questions’ to prompt the key skills of Socratic enquiry, oracy, applied learning and reflective opportunities.
Curriculum SOAR emphasises the skills our pupils will need both now and in the future. Through Socratic discussion, they are learning to listen carefully, question thoughtfully, and articulate their ideas with confidence. Through applied learning, they are discovering how knowledge can be used in real-world contexts; and through regular reflection, they are developing resilience and a deeper awareness of themselves as learners.
As the term unfolds, we are excited to see how each Big Idea grows and develops, and how our pupils use their Essential Questions to shape their thinking. Already, it is clear that Curriculum SOAR is helping our children to see the bigger picture, make meaningful connections, and most importantly, to love their learning.
