On Sunday 19th March, a group of Year 8 boarders made their way over to West Wales to tackle the Minotaur trail at Coed y Brenin mountain bike centre. Whilst many are confident when it comes to riding a bike, the skills and confidence required to ride such trails is very different to normal riding.
We met instructors from Pedal MTB who put the group through their paces in the skills area of the centre. The children worked on their balance on the bike, looking particularly at the position of their feet. They then moved onto developing cornering and braking skills!
From here we set out into the forest on the blue graded ‘Minotaur’ trail. This is a fast, flowing, singletrack course where the group were able to put their new found skills into practice. They went over small drop offs, around numerous berms and climbed some steep hills. By the end of the session everyone was certainly very tired but having had a fantastic time.
