It is hard to believe that the Spring Term is nearly ticked off. The dark, muddy, wet days of January seem a rather distant memory, the final Rugby matches have been completed with the recent Prestfelde block fixture and soon cricket bags will be cluttering up pavilions and changing rooms as we make way for all things summer. It has been a fun and successful term for the boy boarders of Packwood.
Sunday trips and activities have included rugby at Twickers where the lucky lads and girls enjoyed watching England v Italy (don’t mention the Six Nations to Mr. Robertson apparently he’s a diehard Scotland fan!), a visit to Anfield, the gaming bus, paintballing, the roller disco and the Ninja Activity Centre at Stoke. Hugely enjoyed by all and a big thank you to the imaginative and enthusiastic organisers.
Anyone spotted any happy campers recently at Packwood? Yes – well done to the beady eyed among you. It has most definitely not been camping weather but has that stopped the boy boarders? Resoundingly NO. For (and of course…!) a full-size bell tent has been erected, not outside (no, no… that would be silly in this weather) but in a spare dorm. You would not believe how useful (or maybe I mean fun) a tent in a room could be. The perfect place for an evening story with Mr R regularly reading stories ‘under canvas’, the best hiding place, super addition to a game of tag (inside and outside tent) and generally just a very cool place to hang out.
What a range of activities the boys have undertaken in the evenings. Some more run of the mill than others. Other activities might be described as niche or unique! Anyone for making a paper hang-glider and then seeing how far one can fly it with a rotary fan? Oh, only us then! Huge thanks to all the boarding staff for their energy. Big highlights have been Mr. RLG’s brilliant Mario Cars nights: just a tiny bit competitive he dorm dens, anyone for a career in Engineering – great vision and construction; The Warren Winter Olympics on the Main Stairs….WHAT? You haven’t heard? About how it featured the very first downhill ski race using Lego figures? A historical (or do I mean hysterical) moment. Other popular events have been the radio control car stunts, the world’s longest domino track, Nerf Wars, and the recent racing car design – all very impressive and taken most seriously by all involved.
Year 6 have a special mention for their creativity. Between them they could run a very successful entertainment business. Recent games that they themselves have invented include the following (quick get them patented!): dorm hockey with slippers; dorm rugby with various lucky/unlucky teddies as the ball and the top bunk (obviously) as the conversion sticks; ice skating using laminated posters as skates….the list goes on. Anything not tied down is likely to be requisitioned. Fantastic boys, we very much admire your attitude. Never a dull moment!
And that sums it up really! A busy house which is a home-from-home for all boarders, whether full time or flexi, overseas or from less far flung places; it is a happy, bustling, fun place to live and spend time. Never a dull moment!
