Packwood School receives glowing review from The Good Schools Guide

‘Everything a traditional rural prep should be, and more. The focus at Packwood is on a fun, values-driven, all-round, outdoorsy education that boosts confidence and helps every child discover hidden talents’.

‘Tucked away in deepest Shropshire…it’s a very exciting place’, describes the latest review by the Good Schools Guide, of Packwood School, Shropshire.

The review captures Packwood’s nurturing and contemporary approach to learning, the cornerstone of the school’s vision.

The Guide highlights the freedom and values-driven ethos, evident throughout the school:

“There’s so much freedom!” declared one girl, who reported ‘several muddy faces most lunchtimes.’ The independence afforded to young Packwoodians is a key priority for the school, who enjoy ‘65 acres of idyllic rolling greenery which pupils say they ‘use every bit of’ – including for mountain biking…golfing..forest school, climbing trees and making dens.’

Rooted in their clear mission, ‘An Education Full of Wonder’, comprised of three founding principles of ‘Soaring Performance, Adventure and Character’, the school’s love of the outdoors goes hand in hand with their pioneering approach to learning and teaching.

The school recently launched a new curriculum entitled ‘SOAR’, which helps Packwood children to see the bigger picture, make meaningful connections, and most importantly, to love their learning.

Part of the Shrewsbury Family of Schools, reaching across five countries, from Shropshire, to Hong Kong, Packwood remains a family boarding school, which the reviewer found to be ‘thriving’. Over a hundred Packwoodians board during the week in its cosy house, The Warren.

The Head, Will Goldsmith, is described by parents as having a ‘clear vision’, a ‘love of the outdoors’ and ‘a great sense of fun.’ The Guide describes how Mr Goldsmith knows all of the children individually and how he is a person with a ‘global perspective…as well as a pioneer in wellbeing at school, outdoor education and experiential learning.’

Commenting on the review, Will Goldsmith, said:

“I am delighted the Good Schools Guide have captured the essence of Packwood in our approach to nurturing the whole person within a beautiful setting that pioneers a childhood that is both nurturing and contemporary.

“Most importantly, we are proudly rooted in care, warmth and character.

“Our next Open Morning takes place on Saturday 14th March. Families are invited to join us, meet our Packwoodians and staff, and to sense for themselves the idyllic environment in which our children thrive.”
