On 23rd January, our pupils were delighted to take part in a Big Band Day hosted by Shrewsbury School, joining young musicians from a range of prep schools for a day immersed in ensemble music-making.
The day began with sessions led by Shrewsbury’s music faculty and pupils, giving Packwood musicians the chance to build confidence and develop their musical skills. Pupils came together for a workshop with Shrewsbury School’s Big Band, experiencing first-hand what it is like to rehearse and perform as part of a large-scale ensemble.
During the afternoon, the musicians worked on refining their pieces before taking to the stage in a final performance for an audience of parents. Performing in Shrewsbury’s impressive Alington Hall alongside so many other young musicians was a real highlight for our pupils, who rose to the challenge with enthusiasm and focus.
The day was both challenging and hugely enjoyable, offering pupils a valuable opportunity to stretch themselves musically while sharing in the excitement of collaborative performance. They returned to Packwood buzzing with inspiration, having thoroughly enjoyed a memorable day of music and teamwork.
