Last term, all of Year 5 participated in the Rugby School Poetry Competition on the theme of ‘Origins’ and we were delighted that two Packwood children were ‘Highly Commended’. In recognition of their award, Bertie and Gabe attended a creative writing workshop at Rugby School last week, alongside the other winners from prep schools around the country.
Their creative juices were flowing as they thoughtfully crafted four individual poems during the course of the morning; learning about the features of odes, haikus, kennings and several other poetic forms, led by the Head of Creative Writing. They had an opportunity to share their efforts with the rest of the group before enjoying a well-deserved lunch, and the event was topped off by a Harry Potter themed scavenger hunt around the school library. The day was a great success and we hope this might inspire some more aspiring poets in the future.
