From our youngest learners exploring number concepts to senior pupils tackling complex mathematical thinking, there is a clear focus on developing confident, capable and curious mathematicians across the school. The roll-out of the White Rose Maths approach is playing a key role in ensuring a consistent and ambitious learning journey for all pupils.
This carefully sequenced programme helps children build fluency, deepen their understanding and develop the resilience needed to tackle challenging problems with confidence. It also provides a clear framework for assessing progress, enabling teachers to identify strengths and areas for development more effectively. This allows us to tailor support and challenge to the needs of individual pupils, ensuring that every child is able to make strong progress.
As pupils progress through the school, they benefit from specialist teaching in the senior years, where mathematical reasoning and problem-solving are further developed and celebrated. Beyond the classroom, pupils have opportunities to extend their mathematical thinking through initiatives such as the UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT) Challenges, while those preparing for scholarships and senior school entrance assessments receive expert support and guidance. Through these opportunities, pupils are developing the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to succeed both within the classroom and in the next stage of their educational journey.
