Steely Six set for Sheffield

Fencers from across the region, from northern-most Staffordshire to the Malvern Hills, headed to Packwood on Sunday as ‘Team Packwood’ hosted the West Midlands Epee Championships. Our pupil leaders and parents helped lay out ten metallic pistes, turning the sports hall into a fencing salle and Mr Dougan’s room into the Cafe d’Art for the day. As well as giving their best on the piste, as ever, many of Packwood’s team helped the adults throughout the day refereeing and running the competition. Congratulations to all our fencers, many of whom competed for the first time.

Junior Activity fencers Orlando, Henry and Rupert all won medals in the U10s and Bella from our senior club took Silver in the U12s. Combining speed, skill and steely determination a total of six Packwoodians won the chance to proceed to the GB finals, held at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield in the Summer. Grace and Connor will join Bella in the U12s and a record number of three boys (Huw, Jiro and Iolo) all qualified for the U14s.
