Superb Start for Sports Teams

It has been a great start to the Autumn term and despite heavy showers and even hail, all pupils have pulled on their Packwood polos and represented the school.

All Year 7 and 8 boys travelled to Malvern College for pre-season rugby training.  A great afternoon for returning players to enhance their skills and for new players to experience rugby for the term.  The standout moment for several of our staff was watching Junjie out-step several of the potential A team players.

All Year 7 and 8 girls have been involved in the Packwood Development tournament – either as players or young leaders.  This tournament was created to give returning players an opportunity to develop their skills, for rising Year 7s the opportunity to have plenty of game time with the heavier ball, and for players new to the sport to quickly get involved.

All Year 5 and 6 boys travelled to Old Hall for football fixtures with an impressive 5 teams playing.  Mr Weston reported, “The U11D team totally dominated, passed nicely, and defended well”. Unfortunately the score did not go their way but much progress was made.

All Year 5 and 6 girls travelled to Malvern College for a mini hockey tournament. The step up from U9 to U11 hockey saw Margot and Amelia trying goalkeeping for the first time and donning the enormous and cumbersome protective kit.  Margot played with cat-like reflexes and Amelia did a great job.  Sako and Amanda should also receive mention for an impressive first ever match and Eleanor scored a fabulous goal during her first time representing Packwood.

The Year 3 and 4 boys and girls played their first football and hockey matches on Thursday against Old Hall.  A great start to the season and despite torrential downpours and hailstorms, all played with high spirits and determination.

Finally, the U13 and U11  boys participated in Shrewsbury School’s Football Festival on Thursday. Both teams showed fantastic team spirit, which led to winning the Plate in each of their age categories. The U13s faced Wrekin in the final and took a 1-0 win, while the U11s won their final against Birchfield following a penalty shoot out. A superb start to the term!
