Traditional carols accompanied by a candlelit procession in a lovely mediaeval village church are surely guaranteed to put anyone in a festive frame of mind, and all who attended the West Felton carol service came away feeling that the Christmas season had truly begun.
The Packwood senior choirs led the music confidently and tunefully with anthems by a variety of composers. A particular favourite was Gaudete, in which musical staff joined the pupils, producing a spectacularly forceful and exuberant sound! Readers from Packwood and West Felton added to the flow of the service; and refreshments provided a sociable end to the occasion.
With the contrasting musical style of Frozen this week falling between the two church services, the choristers will be refocussing on Christmas in preparation for our own school carol service in a very different venue, the High Victorian splendour of Shrewsbury School Chapel. It has been an exceptionally busy end of term for Years 7 and 8 in particular, and to see them rise to the occasion professionally and enthusiastically in so many diverse public events has demonstrated the commitment and resilience that makes Packwoodians so special.
