On Tuesday 17th June, all of Year 3 and Year 4 presented the annual open assembly to their friends and family. The purpose of the open assembly is to give all Year 3 and Year 4 children the opportunity to work together towards an end goal and develop their confidence and presentation skills as part of a performance to an encouraging audience.
This year, the children performed ‘The Rescue of Robin Hood’, a short play by Sarah Osborne. In the foyer, parents were also treated to an exhibition of the children’s art work and we thank Miss Gill and the children for such a lovely display of vibrant artwork.
Robin Hood is a classic story from English folklore about camaraderie, fairness and social justice. This particular version, focuses on Robin’s ‘Merry Band’ and their response to the news that Robin has been captured by The Sherrif of Nottingham and his sidekick the ‘dastardly Guy of Gisborne’. Robin tricks Guy into taking him on a walk into a garden where the merry band are waiting disguised as dancing statues!
The children have enjoyed learning about this story, as well as participating in some rather more modern additions such as the ‘Best Day Ever’ rap! It was wonderful to see all the children up on stage together especially considering the relatively short amount of time they have had to put their assembly together. We hope all the children have taken confidence from their performance and thank you to all our audience members for being such a warm and supportive audience.
In addition, we are very grateful for the support of Year 7 members of our school technical team, Alex and Will, who operated lighting and sound as part of the performance. Myself and Miss GC would like to thank Mrs Pembleton, Mrs Roberston and Mrs Rogers for organising costumes and supporting both year groups in their preparation for the performance. We hope the children are enthused for their next performance.
