School children displaying their work on boards outside classroom

Form 6 ESB

The range of topics chosen was both impressive and, at times, wonderfully unexpected. We heard thoughtful and engaging presentations on The Cold War, anti-poaching efforts, and rationing, alongside passionate talks on horse racing, favourite hobbies, and beloved animals. One pupil even shared the fascinating fact that a breed of chicken is called a “Mars Bar”!

There were also moments of unintentional comedy. Several pupils referred to the 1980s as “the olden days,” which caused a few raised eyebrows among staff.

Beyond the presentations themselves, it was delightful to see so many pupils bringing in books to support their ideas, as well as confidently performing a wide range of poems. These moments showcased not only their preparation and enthusiasm, but also their willingness to take risks and express themselves in front of others.

The assessments also reflect our Curriculum SOAR approach, where oracy remains a key focus, supporting pupils in developing the confidence to communicate their ideas clearly and effectively.

Overall, the assessments were a fantastic success. Form 6 should be very proud of the maturity, enthusiasm, and individuality they brought to the occasion.
