As the evenings draw in and winter approaches, we know that children’s wellbeing is more important than ever. At Packwood, exceptional pastoral care lies at the heart of everything we do. We are proud of the strong relationships we build with our pupils, ensuring that every child is known, understood and supported as an individual.
Our dedicated pastoral team works closely with children throughout their journey at Packwood, providing bespoke support tailored to their needs. Whether a child requires encouragement, guidance, a listening ear or simply a quiet moment to reset, we are committed to ensuring they feel safe, valued and confident to thrive.
Top Tips for Pupils During the Winter Months:
Keep Talking
If something is worrying you, speak to a trusted adult, friend, tutor or member of staff. Sharing concerns early can often make challenges feel much easier to manage.
Stay Active
Regular exercise and time outdoors can improve mood, boost energy levels and support overall wellbeing.
Prioritise Good Sleep
Maintaining a consistent bedtime routine helps children feel rested, focused and ready for each day.
Look After Your Body
Eating well, staying hydrated and getting enough rest all contribute to positive mental health and emotional resilience.
Make Time for What You Enjoy
Whether it is reading, music, sport, creativity or spending time with friends and family, activities that bring joy are important for wellbeing.
Show Kindness
A small act of kindness towards yourself or others can make a significant difference, particularly during the darker months when some people may be finding things more challenging.
The Wellbeing Nest:
A particular strength of our pastoral provision is the Wellbeing Nest, a dedicated space designed to support pupils’ emotional wellbeing. The Nest is much more than a room; it is a nurturing environment where children know they can find reassurance, guidance and support when they need it.
Whether a pupil needs a quiet moment to regroup, an opportunity to talk through a concern, help navigating friendships, or support with managing emotions, the Wellbeing Nest provides a calm and welcoming space staffed by trusted adults who know our children well. Mrs Handaji and Mrs Caithness are on hand to support pupils within this setting.
The Nest reflects our belief that every child deserves personalised care and that wellbeing is fundamental to success in school and beyond. It forms an integral part of our whole-school pastoral approach, helping pupils develop resilience, emotional literacy and confidence, while ensuring they always have someone to turn to.
At Packwood, we understand that no two children are the same. That is why our pastoral care is intentionally individualised, placing each child at the centre of every decision we make. Through initiatives such as the Wellbeing Nest, strong relationships with staff, and close partnership with families, we create an environment in which children feel secure, supported and ready to flourish.
Outstanding pastoral care is one of the defining features of a Packwood education. Our commitment to nurturing the whole child ensures that every pupil is not only prepared to succeed academically, but is also equipped with the confidence, resilience and wellbeing needed to embrace the opportunities and challenges of life.
