There was a palpable sense of excitement across the school when the Big Red Book Bus arrived on site. Its bright red exterior proved impossible to miss and quickly became the talking point of the day. As word spread and classes awaited their turn to visit, anticipation mounted throughout the school, and it was clear that staff were just as excited as the children to see what was inside.
The travelling book fair gave every pupil the chance to climb aboard, browse the shelves and choose a book to take home. Throughout the day, children delighted in sharing their discoveries, recommending favourite authors and discussing the stories they were most eager to start reading. Some of the boarders were even asking for extra reading time in the evening, so they could carry on with their new books.
The visit was a wonderful way to celebrate the National Year of Reading and complemented our involvement in the Shropshire BookFest Readers to Writers project, highlighting the important connection between reading widely and developing confidence as a writer.
Most importantly, the Book Bus created a genuine buzz around reading. It sparked curiosity, imagination and conversation, bringing pupils together through a shared love of books. We hope this enthusiasm will continue throughout the year as we provide many more opportunities for children to discover new stories, authors and ideas
