Essay Competition Finalists

This Thursday, six Packwood pupils (from Years 5 and 6) attended an event at Shrewsbury School as finalists of the Sir Philip Sidney Essay Competition. With over 70 entries from various prep schools, to make it through to the final was a fantastic achievement.

The competition involved writing 500 words on the topic: “The rise of artificial intelligence will cause more harm than good for humanity – discuss.”

The finalists’ event involved two workshops based on exploring this topic further. One workshop provided the opportunity for pupils to create AI superheroes, whilst the other was a library-based exercise involving delving into various books and journals. The day concluded with tea, cake and presentations. Congratulations go to Sophie, who won the Year 5 ‘Runner Up’ prize, all our finalists and also every pupil who took part. Every competition entrant was awarded a certificate of participation and they should be very pleased with their essays which tackled a complex subject and offered some thought provoking responses.
