The best of British fencers and their coaches and parents (including TV’s Brian Cox FRS) headed to Sheffield last weekend for the National Youth Championships. In total 1,100 competitors fenced over the bank holiday weekend, including six from Packwood and two Old Packwoodians. Congratulations to everyone for an out of this world performance, our best results for a decade.

Huge thanks to everyone in the club for practising and encouraging each other to make progress, to Rose for sewing our West Midlands badges onto jackets specifically designed to stop sharp objects, to Lyn for preparing our kit, to Emma for driving us over 300 miles and organising the overnight accommodation, to our catering team for all our snacks and supplies (definitely an army that marches on its stomachs!), to our Matrons for the medical kit, to Chris for preparing the minibus, to Ellesmere College and another Old Packwoodian and GB Fencer, James Hinwood, for our warm up matches and top tips.
We’ll have plenty more Friday sessions this term, the Duel-in-the-Sun trophy to compete for and we’re already pencilling in Sunday 19th November for our next team tour (Birmingham).
With lots of new fencers and a talented group of juniors coming through the ranks, Things Can Only Get Better!
