Packwood Award Experience for Alpha Academies

After many months of joint planning and preparation, it was a pleasure to welcome 200 pupils from Alpha Academies Trust (Stoke-on-Trent) for a Packwood Award experience day. This is part of a much bigger shared plan to work together cross-sector for mutual benefit – involving both primary and secondary pupils from Alpha Academies, Packwood and Shrewsbury School.

Packwood pupils from 7S and 6R had the opportunity to host their young visitors, leading them through various activities including dance, yoga, kite-flying and outdoor teamwork challenges. Packwood’s work in conservation and rewilding were discussed on a woodland walk. The visitors also developed their balance and sports skills as Packwood pupils put their recent ‘Sports Leader’ qualifications to good use.

Mr Weston, Head of Co-Curricular, wrote “It was great to meet so many inspirational students from across the Alpha Academies. 6R and 7S did themselves, and Packwood, proud. They worked hard, presented their activities and ideas with enthusiasm and clarity, and demonstrated exactly the kind of maturity and individual confidence that senior schools and future employers are looking for.

Packwood will host another exciting event later in the term with more outdoor-based activities, providing participants with the chance to develop their character, teamwork and leadership skills, whilst having plenty of fun.
