Group of children at a farm meeting donkeys

A Delightful Day at Moel Famau

Some of our pupils enjoyed a memorable day out in the picturesque foothills of Moel Famau, where they were warmly welcomed by some very special four-legged friends. The visit began with an introduction to four sheep, one Dorset and three Valais Blacknose, who were awaiting their spring shear. The children had the opportunity to observe the sheep before and after their fleeces were removed, gaining a fascinating insight into the process of shearing and the importance of wool in farming.

The highlight of the day was undoubtedly meeting the miniature donkeys – Bess, Blodwyn, Annie, Douglas, Nansi, Polly, and Tilly, each standing just 36 inches tall. The donkeys were exceptionally gentle and affectionate, clearly enjoying the attention as the children spent an hour with them, learning all about their care and characteristics. It was a hands-on learning experience that combined animal welfare education with plenty of joy.

To round off a wonderful day, everyone enjoyed a well-earned lunch and locally made ice cream.
