We were delighted to welcome grandparents from across the country to Packwood for our annual Grandparents’ Day, which was blessed with glorious sunshine from start to finish.
The day began with tours of the school led by the grandchildren themselves. It was wonderful to see the pride with which the children shared their classrooms, favourite spaces and daily routines, giving their grandparents a real insight into life at Packwood.
The event was opened by Head of School Gabe, who extended a warm welcome to all our guests and set the tone for a wonderful day of community and celebration. Following the tours, grandparents enjoyed a drinks reception before gathering for a sit-down lunch. To mark the start of lunch, Heads of School Esme and Rory rang the school bell, before offering a short speech in which they thanked grandparents for the invaluable support, encouragement and love they provide to their grandchildren throughout the year.
The catering team received many compliments, with one grandparent insisting the meal was even better than a particularly lovely meal they had enjoyed at a restaurant earlier that week. It was a joy to see so many families catching up and enjoying each other’s company in such a relaxed atmosphere.
The afternoon continued with Sixes cricket, where grandparents were able to cheer on the children and enjoy the sunshine from the boundary. The day concluded with a traditional match tea, providing one final opportunity for families to come together before departing.
A special thank you goes to our 2025–2026 Heads of School, Gabe, Rory, Esmé, Lulie, Maisie, James and Geordie, who hosted the day with great warmth and confidence. Their enthusiasm and leadership helped make the event such a memorable success.
We are grateful to all the grandparents who joined us and helped make the day so special. Their presence, wisdom and support are an important part of our school community, and we look forward to welcoming them back again next year.
