There are many ways to measure a school year. You can count lessons, examinations or sports fixtures. Or you can count adventures.
For Packwood’s Form 8 pupils, their final five weeks were a celebration of everything that makes a Packwood education so special. Led by Mr Weston, with the support of Mrs Hughes, Mrs Parry, Mr Philips, Ms Leonard, Mr Mullock, Mr Caithness, Mr Collins and visiting helper Mr Bell, the Enrichment Programme transformed the final half of term into a remarkable journey of challenge, friendship and discovery.
The programme blended academic preparation with real-world experiences: iPQ presentations, visits to Liverpool’s historic docks and the Black Country Living Museum, residential adventures in Pembrokeshire, Journey On along the River Severn by foot and paddle, a Stock Market Investment Challenge, MasterChef, Apprentice, World Race, Bushcraft Breakfast and a formal Black Tie Dinner before their final Celebration of Packwood.
The result was exactly what enrichment is intended to achieve, not simply teaching more, but helping pupils grow into confident, resilient young adults.
The pupils themselves perhaps describe it best.
Reflecting on his time at Packwood, Leon wrote:
“My favourite memories are spending my time with my friends and going on our Year 8 leavers’ trip. Most of my happy memories will be with me for many years after I leave Packwood.”
His advice to future generations captured the spirit of the programme:
“Enjoy the moment… it will fly by and before you know it, it’s the end.”
For Edward, the experiences themselves became unforgettable:
“My favourite moments at Packwood are the camping and the leavers’ trip.”
He remembered coasteering, surfing and the freedom of adventure before encouraging younger pupils simply to:
“Try everything and embrace it with a positive attitude.”
Another pupil, Bertie, reflected on how the experiences pushed personal boundaries:
“The Year 8 leavers’ trip was where I learned to come out of my comfort zone as we coasteered off cliffs and swam in the sea.”
His advice was equally fitting:
“Get stuck in by making friends and trying loads of activities.”
Perhaps most moving of all was the gratitude shown towards the staff who had guided the pupils throughout their Packwood journey. Leon wrote:
“I am thankful for all of the teachers who have looked after me… and all of the kitchen staff who have cooked three meals for us on most of the days of the year.”
As the Class of 2026 leave Packwood, they do so with far more than outstanding examination results. They leave with memories of rivers and coastlines, museums and markets, speeches and songs, friendships strengthened through shared challenges, and a confidence that can only come from saying “yes” to new experiences.
That, ultimately, is what the Form 8 Enrichment Programme was designed to achieve: not simply preparing pupils for senior school, but preparing them for life. It was five weeks that perfectly reflected the Packwood philosophy learning through adventure, serving others, embracing opportunity and creating memories that, as one pupil wrote, “will be with me for many years after I leave Packwood.”
