On World Book Day, the children in Acorns took part in a wonderfully imaginative celebration, arriving at school dressed as a wide range of their favourite book characters. The costumes were a real highlight, with children dressed as witches, wizards, dragons, fairies, soldiers, and even oompa loompas, just to name a few! It was a vibrant and colourful sight that set the tone for a day full of creativity and adventure.
The day kicked off with a special storytelling session, where the teachers presented a unique story that featured the characters they were dressed as. The tale involved Wanda from Where’s Wally, Little Miss Sunshine, and an alien from Aliens Love Underpants joining one another on an unexpected and exciting adventure. The children were captivated by the idea of these unlikely characters teaming up, and they loved hearing how they worked together to overcome challenges.
After the story, the children were given the challenge of creating their own stories, again inspired by the characters they were dressed as. They worked in small groups, brainstorming ideas and bringing them to life through drama. Acting out their stories helped the children develop their ideas and encouraged them to think creatively. Once they had explored their adventures through drama, the children were able to transfer their ideas onto paper, creating detailed story maps to illustrate their narratives.
The fun didn’t end there – the children also solved clues related to mystery book characters, putting their literary knowledge to the test. A costume parade followed, with each child proudly showing off their fantastic outfits to the rest of the school. Throughout the day, there was a constant buzz of excitement as the children shared stories with each other, making World Book Day a memorable and enriching experience for all involved. It was a day of imagination, teamwork, and storytelling that the children are sure to remember for years to come.
